As I sat in my Los Angeles home, watching smoke weave through our Los Angeles skies, I’m reminded of an ancient truth: sometimes the most powerful new beginnings arrive through the portal of a fierce fire.
These fires sweeping through our beloved hills carry profound wisdom for our collective journey into 2025. Just as nature knows when to release through flames to birth new growth, we too are being called into a deeper understanding of graceful letting go.
In my ceremonial work,, I’ve witnessed how transformation often mirrors nature’s cycles. The smoke rising from our canyons whispers the same truth I’ve learned in temple spaces – before we can fully embrace our next chapter, we must honor what’s ready to be released.
This past month I’ve been witnessing both devastating grief and remarkable resilience – families who’ve lost homes filled with precious memories, communities displaced from their sacred spaces, and the raw vulnerability of starting anew. Yet even in this fierce transformation, I’m reminded of nature’s deepest wisdom: that loss, while painful, often carries seeds of renewal in its ashes. Through my work, I’ve witnessed how collective grief, when held in a sacred container, can transform into extraordinary grace. As we share tears and stories, I’m humbled by humanity’s capacity to rise, to hold each other, and to believe in new beginnings even when the path ahead feels unclear. This is the medicine these fires bring – teaching us that sometimes the most profound transformations arrive through surrender, and that our greatest strength often emerges when we allow ourselves to be held by community love.

The fires remind us that release doesn’t always feel gentle. Sometimes it’s fierce, wild, and completely out of our control. Yet within this surrender lies precious medicine. Each flame clearing old growth creates space for new life, just as releasing our outdated stories creates space for fresh dreams.
Through my work, I’ve noticed how we often resist nature’s invitation to let go. We cling to old identities, outgrown relationships, and familiar discomfort rather than trusting the mystery of what’s next.

Three Reiki-Infused Practices for Sacred Surrender
Here are three sacred practices I’m sharing with my temple and Reiki community during this potent time:
1. Smoke Clearing Ceremony + Reiki Energy Release
Create a safe sacred space with a white candle. Write what you’re releasing on bay leaves. As you safely burn each leaf, place your hands over your heart or solar plexus and channel Reiki energy (or set an intention to receive healing energy). Whisper, “I release with grace, I receive with trust.” Feel Reiki’s warmth flowing through you, assisting in the clearing process.
2. Phoenix Rising Meditation with Reiki
Each morning, place your hands on your heart center and invite Reiki energy in. Breathe in golden light, imagining yourself rising renewed from whatever feels like ashes in your life. If you’re attuned to Reiki, send yourself healing energy for a few minutes. If not, simply call upon the universal energy to flow through you, restoring balance and peace.
3. Sacred Surrender Bath Ritual with Reiki Infusion
Add rose petals and sea salt to your bath. As you soak, imagine Reiki energy flowing through the water, enveloping you in a cocoon of healing and renewal. Let the water (and Reiki) carry away what no longer serves, allowing your entire being to relax and reset.
Remember, just as these fires will eventually give way to new growth, your journey of release is making space for magnificent beginnings. The smoke rising from our canyons carries our old stories skyward, transmuting them into fertile ash for a next chapter.
